Good News! It has been one year since Hale’s surgery to remove external Fibropapilloma and he is now ready for release! All Fibropapilloma patients must remain at the hospital for one year after surgery to ensure that they have no re-growths. If they do not, these patients are released on the one year anniversary of their last surgical date. Hale has been happily recovering in the large 100,000gl saltwater swimming pool since his surgery last June. Prior to release, we draw blood which is sent to a lab to ensure our patients are in good health. The results are in….. he’s a happy, healthy sea turtle ready to go home! His release is tentatively set for early July.

It has been two weeks since Goulet’s surgery to remove the scar tissue in his trachea and he no longer gurgles and wheezes when he breathes. Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald (from E-Vet Interns on Animal Planet) assisted Dr. Mader in the tracheoscopy to ensure Goulet was ready for release….and he was! The team piled onto a boat shortly after the procedure and assisted in Goulet’s celebrity send-off. A special thanks to Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald for donating his time to assist in Goulet’s exam and release!

Last March, a sub adult Loggerhead sea turtle showed up at the boat basin behind the Turtle Hospital. Kincaid was not acting normal and was captured and given a physical. It was determined the turtle had an infection and was very emaciated and weak. After 2 ½ months of antibiotics and large helpings of squid, the infection was gone and Kincaid had gained over 10 pounds.
