Coastie was rescued by the Fort Pierce Coast Guard in St. Lucie County, Florida on November 2, 1999. Coastie was struck across the head by the propeller of a boat, is missing the posterior end ofÂ the carapace, and is a permanent floater. Coastie also arrived at the hospital with a minor case of Fibropapilloma. Coastie has a lead weight fiberglassed to the shell in order to make life here at the hospital as comfortable as possible.
