The Turtle Hospital is very fortunate to have a very large Rehabilitation Facility within an easy walk of the Hospital. The chain link enclosure is covered in shade cloth for the comfort of both volunteers and turtles. We have a large 100,000 gallon salt water pool (formerly the swimming pool for hotel guests) and 19 individual tanks ranging in size from 150 to 800 gallons each. A sink and storage bin round out the facility.

The individual tanks along the edges of the pool hold turtles which either require more intensive care (recovering from recent surgery, receiving medication, etc.), or turtles which do not have fibropapilloma (the possibility of transmission through water has not yet been ruled out).

Turtles which are recovering from fibropapilloma tumor surgery have longer stays at the hospital than most others. They require a longer post-surgery observation period so that we can check for the re-growth of fibropapilloma tumors. These turtles are usually moved from their individual tanks into the salt-water pool for the majority of their observation period.
