The Turtle Hospital. Rescue, Rehab, Release.

Come join us in releasing Izsak

“Izsak” the Loggerhead sea turtle will be making his journey back to the ocean Saturday and the Turtle Hospital in Marathon is inviting the public out to wish him a safe journey. The 200 pound adult male turtle was rescued by FWC officers on April 2nd, two days after the closing of lobster season where he was discovered with a lobster trap line tightly wrapped around¬† his rear flipper, anchored by a trap. Unfortunately, the flipper had to be amputated (much thanks to the Marathon Veterinarian Hospital) but after two months of antibiotics and squid breakfasts, “Izsak” has made a full recovery and his ready to go home to the ocean. This will be the first public release of a rehabilitated sea turtle in the middle Keys since “Johnny” the sea turtle, the young Loggerhead attacked by a machete that attracted hundreds of well wishers including Jack Hanna. The release will take place at Coco Plum Beach in Marathon at 11:00am, Saturday, May 30th. For details please call the Turtle Hospital at 305-743-2552.
