Coastie, a juvenile Green sea turtle, was rescued by the Fort Pierce Coast Guard in St. Lucie County, Florida on November 2, 1999. Coastie was struck across the head by the propeller of a boat, is missing the posterior end of its carapace, and is a permanent floater. Coastie also arrived at the hospital with a minor case of Fibropapilloma. Coastie has a lead weight fiberglassed to the shell in order to make its life here at the hospital as comfortable as possible.
